Periscope, which is a Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) owned mobile app that permits users to have access to stream live  videos from their smartphones via the Internet, has released an update through the iOS software, which now makes it much convenient to search for videos globally. It will now make the available live feed tweets through the displays of an interactive global map that has just installed on the app.

Twitter spokeperson, Lauren Jones, said that this new visual search would add to the teleportation experience, which was what originally ignited the idea to set up the social media company. An image released by the company shows those live broadcasts, which can be appeared over the world map and can be spotted as red pinned icons, which are tagged on a specific country where the news feed originated.

In Twitter, it is easy to find live streaming videos from the people who are connected via Twitter, with ‘Twitter social graph’. It is much harder to do that from strangers who are not connected with people – unlike in Facebook, where there are not many barriers in seeking live video stream. However, there still was the option of private settings to avoid strangers peeking through their photos or videos. Before this, all the live feeds and videos used to come in the form of thumbnails and titles.

In addition to solving the problem of securing live feeds indirectly through a world map, it also has the added option of securing a tweet from a link to any Periscope broadcast, in a bid to make it simpler to share videos that users are watching.

After Periscope was debuted on iOS more than three months ago, Twitter announced that the same would also be launched on Android to diversify among Samsung smartphone users, who are far more in the international market as compared to iPhone users, whose users are mostly limited to the US and a handful of some around the world.

Live mobile video is becoming a popular and lucrative space for social media users and marketers, valued at billions of dollars. Little wonder that Periscope is facing competition from other live video streaming mobile apps, such as Meerkat, along with a few others.

Twitter stock price ended the day at $ 36.72, a decline of 0.80% from the previous day, ahead of reports that the company may miss its estimates for the third consecutive quarter.
