Microsoft Is Propagating Gender And Wage Disparity

Microsoft is been alleged of involved ingender wage disparity.

Microsoft Corporation and Facebook Inc, are two tech giants that have been forced by an investment firm to come up with pay transparency. They are forced to disclose the salaries of employees so that they can gauge if they pay men and women equally.

The company came up with information before the Equal Pay Day which was scheduled for Tuesday. This points out how hard women have to work to get the same pay scale as men generally tend to get in the previous year.

Among the nine tech giants such as, Apple Inc., and Amazon Inc., the Windows 10 maker faced a lot of pressure from Arjuna Capital, an investment company situated in Boston. The company is a segment of Baldwin Brothers Inc. reportedly filed stakeholder proposals for each of the company in the end of 2014 where they were asked to minimize the gender wage gap and release the salary data.

According to Natasha Lamb, who is a partner at Arjuna Capital stated, “If tech companies want to attract and retain the best talent and are going to move women into leadership roles that will make the companies more competitive, they need to pay men and women the same, and they need to be transparent about how they are doing that.”

There is dire need for transparency when it comes to the gender gap in the Silicon Valley. There is a major issue when it comes to diversity in the tech fraternity. Thus companies are now making efforts to overcome this problem and include minorities and women in the present workforce.

Gender wage gap, is rather an easy problem to deal with. Lack of diversity is an easy issue to counter by simply throwing money. The tech giants already have a lot of money so spemding it is not an issue whatsoever. Salesforce.com which is a customer relationship company has spent almost $3 million in the fiscal year of 2015. This encouraged them to increase the salary of few women and overcome pay disparity. However, the company was not dealing with a major discrepancy as per an executive.

At this point, Microsoft and Facebook alo0ng with others are not propagating gender wage gap. This is in compliance to a recent study conducted on the tech fraternity. As per a study encompassing 3000 employers, the disparity in salaries of female and male accumulates to 7%. This is not a big number and shows that little efforts can bridge the gap in the times to come.

The Arjuna Capital firm is striving hard to bridge the gender disparity. According to the investment firm, if a company advocates diversity then they are more likely to be more innovative in nature as per Ms. Lamb.

Microsoft and Facebook are big name in the industry and they will not like to be known as propagators of hatred. Thus disparity needs to be dealt with intricacy so that their integrity remains maintained.
