Airbus Group Looking To Buy United Technologies Sikorsky Segment

Airbus Group CEO and chairman Allan McArtor lately discussed strategies to expand the company’s business and showed interest in United Technologies’ Sikorsky unit.

Allan McArtor, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Airbus Group told Reuters that the company is looking for what United Technologies Corp. has decided to do with its helicopter manufacturing unit namely, Sikorsky.

Earlier last month, United Technologies Corp. announced that it is considering various options for spinning off its helicopter making Sikorsky unit, as it does not consider it as its long term planning objective. Presently, the company is doing valuation of the Sikorsky segment, most likely to end by June, after that the company will be open to get bids from possible buyers.

In the meantime, Mr. McArtor said that Airbus is interested to expand its business and is  looking in defense, areas of space, helicopters, cyber security and 3D making. Airbus is also looking in the process of developing an aircraft making facility located in Alabama in order to compete with United States based competitor Boeing Co.

The company is keep on benefiting from its growth in markets such as Middle East, China, Latin America and South East Asia, as rise in demand is permitting low-cost airline to extend their fleet. Mr. McArtor further added that the aircraft making company is getting most of the demand for its single-aisle commercial airplane.

He also said that for a time being the US market is mature, but with improvement in fleet modernization brought by passenger, together with low prices of crude oil, American airlines are in good position to upgrade their current fleet.

Last week, Airbus also announced  that it is considering to attend the Air Show in Paris, which will start from June 15 and will end on June 21. The aircraft manufacturing company is extremely bullish on booking hundreds of fresh order of commercial airplane during the event.

Airbus Group is already functioning a helicopter unit that makes both military and commercial helicopters. The company offers medium, heavy and light types of heli in both military and commercial segments with different capacity of passengers. The company also owns a Tiger NH90 -a military helicopter, a multi role military attack helicopter having an ability of both air to ground and air to air attacks.

If Airbus will be successful in buying the United Technologies Sikorsky unit, it will add value to its current segment, Sikorsky presently has multiple defense agreement with the government of United States, while its popular Blackhowk is used by military and Air Force of US.
