Twitter Inc. is the world’s largest social media network platform along with Facebook. Although it still trails Facebook in the market, the company has ambitious plans to overtake the market leader eventually. Despite being the largest social media networks, both companies are banned from China – the world’s second largest economy. Irrespective of that, Twitter has asked Chinese executives and their companies to hop on its platform and buy advertising space, Reuters reported. Twitter is all set to welcome Chinese companies on board and use its platform to expand its global reach.

The Vice President of International Operations (IO) at Twitter, Shailesh Rao, expressed his intents to welcome company on the social media platform when he spoke to them on the second day of Consumer Electronics Show Asia (CES Asia). He stated that the Chinese companies should expand their global users reach through its platform and through this they are “reaching out (to the) audiences around the world”. Shailesh Rao is a former Google employee and he realizes the importance and significance of the Chinese market.

He avoided mentioning the use of Twitter in the region due to country’s ‘rules and regulations’ on the website. Moreover, there is no news whether the government will consider unblocking the social media website in the coming times or not. Hence, he planned to make Twitter operational in the country by other means. According to Mr. Shailesh Rao, his strategic plans include reaching out to the audiences overseas. He also suggested the same for Chinese ventures, as both businesses could complement each other – advertisements and marketing,” BidnessETC reports.

Some Chinese companies have embraced Mr. Rao’s schemes ‘as a phase of their global strategies’, which include Alibaba Group Holding, Haier, Xiaomi, and Chinese Airlines. Shailesh Rao, while asking the Chinese companies to support the cause of Twitter, said, “So the moment is now, to take advantage of the tremendous communication capabilities for Asian and Chinese companies, who have ambition and aspirations to reach world markets and audiences around the world… Twitter can be an effective platform to help you do that.”

In recent times, it is known that Twitter has had a very unsuccessful ad campaign that disappointed the company as well as shareholders. Facebook is miles ahead when it comes to advertising and generates a major chunk of revenue through advertisements.

Both companies are putting in all efforts and are trying to bring about a change in China regarding their public ban policy.
