Microsoft Azure Container Service Makes Its Debut
Microsoft reveals its Azure Container service.
Mesosphere, a startup that deals in cloud infrastructure has some big names as investors such as Microsoft Corporation, HP Enterprise and the CIA. Analysts now claim that they are having a good day.
Initially, the software giant made an announcement for its Azure Container Service, a core product offering that is made by using the technology of Mesosphere along with Docker another startup will now be readily accessible to the masses.
Secondly Mesosphere made an announcement regarding its data Center Operating System known as DC/OS is now being offered to the developers as open source. This means that anyone can download the operating system and customize it as per his needs.
This news is actually a big achievement for Mesosphere that is said to have a valuation of more then $1 billion. Moreover, the Windows 10 giant put forward an acquisition offer which was rejected by the startup.
This is an indicator that big companies such as MSFT are taking major strides so that they can give a tough time to Google by taking over their core selling point in the cloud computing domain.
Many don’t consider it to be a war that is pertaining to clouds but it is more of an arms race which all giants are battling.
At this point, one of the most sought after things that is happening in the world of advertisers is the popularity of the software container. The good thing about containers is that the programmer can detach his code and then secure it by packing it in a virtual box. This will then function the same way almost everywhere.
Thus if you have a container then you can easily write a code using your MacBook and then make it run of the huge server farms of Microsoft Azure. The developers will not have to be bothered about the differences in the two platforms. Containers are now making it easier for the company to switch between cloud providers since the code has been pre-packaged.
According to the CTO of Microsoft Azure, Mr. Mark Russinovich, "Some people call it the 'modern .ZIP file.” Thus Containers are now the next big thing in the arms race of Silicon Valley.
It seems like Google has been making use of something that has a lot of resemblance with the modern container. This is in use by the company since its inception. In 2014, it turned out to be a gesture of goodwill to the software fraternity where the tech giant came up with Kubernetes, free software. This is a tool that can help in managing and maintaining massive piles of containers. This is based on the technology derived by the company for the same reason.
Kubernetes have become extremely popular, where developers belonging to all parts of the world are striving to get their hands on the magic portion by Google for their cloud infrastructure. It needs to be noted that it functions in sever rooms of data centers of customers similar to how it will run in the large public clouds such as Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
